"The Parting Glass" - Irish Traditional
Arranged for Brass Band by Russell Gilmour
The Parting Glass is a traditional Irish song - which was very popular in both Ireland and Scotland before Robert Burns wrote "Auld Lang Syne”, which effectively replaced it. More recently, it was used as the finale of the film “Waking Ned”. This popular arrangement for full brass band draws on celtic sounds with brass instruments imitating fiddles, whistles, pipes and drones. The percussion provides a flavour of the typical celtic bodhrán and later the unmistakable sound of the highland snare drum. This medium-difficulty arrangement could be easily integrated into a varied entertainment programme.
